Clive Cussler writes books based around (and in) the ocean. In every book, it's either Dirk Pitt and Al Gordgino (major SP) from the Dirk Pitt series, or Kert Austin and the other dude who's name I don't remember (in HIS spin-off series) getting into some screwed up situation. They all work for NUMA, the National Underwater and Marine Agency (which Cussler owns as a non-profit origination for the finding and SAFE recovery of shipwrecks. They give the treasures to museums, not keep them for their own pockets.)
Overall, his books are very well written, usually starting with some even in the past that deals with the main plot line in some way, then starts out in the 'present' and follows the characters. Both Dirk and Kert have a love for old cars (Dirk has an aircraft hanger full of fully restored old cars that would make Buwie have a never-ending car-gasm) and usually drive around said old cars. Very good books.
